JFKM Vol. 1
My first 10-page ‘zine, Just Fuck’n Kill Me, was written and self-published in late-2018 while I was in the throes of a deep depression and essentially self-medicating by going to punk rock shows at least once a week in Philadelphia, PA. The publication of this zine was nothing short of therapeutic, helping me to sort out the turmoil of my inner workings, and do something with my writing that wasn’t just creating copy for some soulless ad agency.
Vol. 2 was never completed, because shortly after this dropped, I started booking my own shows and took a new job that saw little time for writing about the bands I was seeing, meeting, and hosting at underground venues all over the city. (I was also drinking too much, but that’s a story for another time.) It’s a shame, really, because I had (still have) lots of things to say about the pre-COVID Philly music scene, but it never came to fruition. My short story, The Door Behind the Sun, was also meant to be serialized in the pages of JFKM, but since no further volumes were ever released, it’s all here on the Fiction page, instead.
No physical copies remain, so it’s online here for the first time ever.
Oh, and one last thing: this was written during a time when I refused to capitalize anything but Proper Nouns, because style. I dunno, I think I was going for like a bell hooks things. I’ve since knocked it off.
(If the next page doesn’t load straight away, just scroll up & down to bring it up. I don’t know why it does this.)
